“When you’re up here, you realize just how small you really are” – Felix Baumgartner

It all started because of the Space Jump. I was at home and saw tweets about a live stream of Felix Baumgartner‘s jump from the stratosphere (people say, “the edge of space”). I decided to watch it live with the rest of the world. I watched with bated breathe while he free-falled for about 4 seconds, from the height of 128,097 feet. It was literally nail-biting! The whole thing did not even last ten minutes, but I bet it was the longest ten minutes of his life.

The jump affected me a lot more than I thought it would. There’s no other word for it. It was amazing! It took years to prepare, a lot of effort, time and money. I couldn’t imagine the lead up to the event. I’m sure it took a lot of courage to jump. Felix was fearless! The jump also made me reflect on my own life. My bucket list. The things I’ve always said I wanted to do but haven’t done yet, one of which was bungy jumping. I ended up tweeting about that very thought. My mind immediately jumped to research mode. I had to start somewhere. How much would the bungy cost? What’s the best way to get there? I started making a computations in my head. Can I do the jump next year? Imagine my surprise when a few hours after, I got a reply to my tweet.

Unexpected Tweet

I couldn’t believe it. Is this for real? I emailed AomenTV and got a reply back moments later. The offer is real. They will be giving me a voucher for a free bungy jump, a t-shirt and a certificate. Considering that a standard bungy jump off the Macau Tower costs MOP2488/USD319 (roughly PHP13,000), I was getting a steal. And let’s face it, I knew myself, because of the cost of the jump, I would probably end up putting this off for a really long time and end up going somewhere else or doing something else with that money. After a few more email exchanges, it was agreed that they will send the voucher in the mail.

The voucher finally arrived in the mail last October 31

Since the voucher only covered the jump, I still had to dot some Is and cross some Ts. I finally booked my flight and hotel last Friday. I will be in Macau for 2D2N. The cost is not cheap, definitely more than what I usually pay for on trips, but I really wanted to accomplish this before the year ends. I am writing this post on November 20, 2012. It’s 5:10 PM and I should be preparing for work soon. However, I’ve made a decision not to post this til I’ve gotten on the plane to Macau. I am nervous and excited all at once. This trip will be a lot of firsts for me and I hope I can cross out two things off my list. Thank you AomenTV! I am very thankful for the opportunity given to me.

Thank you AomenTV!

Lastly, I really hope I won’t chicken out. Wish me luck!
